2004 - 2005 - Work and Study"In art, truth and reality begin when one no longer understands what one is doing or what one knows, and when there remains an energy that is all the stronger for being constrained, controlled and compressed." Henri Matisse
Nurses Uniform My productivity was low in 2005 due to the necessities of earning money as well as studying a MA in Communication. When I did paint, I made a couple of paintings based on inner-city Sydney, where I was living. These paintings combined surrealism and geometry to create a feeling of the city by night.
City Strip In addition to painting a few city scapes, I was interested in the emotion of colour. I would choose a colour and then try to create imagery that was somehow contained by the colour. This process allowed me to reflect upon colour as a psycholigical boundary. In hindsight, I think I probably could have learnt more about colour by choosing one image and changing colours in it. Additionally, I think the defined aims of the communication made me too defined in my art, which I felt was a bit negative.
